“Animorphs was always a war story. Wars don’t end happily. Not ever. Often relationships that were central during war, dissolve during peace. Some people who were brave and fearless in war are unable to handle peace, feel disconnected and confused. Other times people in war make the move to peace very easily.

Always people die in wars. And always people are left shattered by the loss of loved ones.

That’s what happens, so that’s what I wrote.

Jake and Cassie were in love during the war, and end up going their seperate ways afterward. Jake, who was so brave and capable during the war is adrift during the peace. Marco and Ax, on the other hand, move easily past the war and even manage to use their experience to good effect. Rachel dies, and Tobias will never get over it. That doesn’t by any means cover everything that happens in a war, but it’s a start.

Here’s what doesn’t happen in war: there are no wondrous, climactic battles that leave the good guys standing tall and the bad guys lying in the dirt. Life isn’t a World Wrestling Federation Smackdown. Even the people who win a war, who survive and come out the other side with the conviction that they have done something brave and necessary, don’t do a lot of celebrating. There’s very little chanting of ‘we’re number one’ among people who’ve personally experienced war.

I’m just a writer, and my main goal was always to entertain. But I’ve never let Animorphs turn into just another painless video game version of war, and I wasn’t going to do it at the end. I’ve spent 60 books telling a strange, fanciful war story, sometimes very seriously, sometimes more tongue-in-cheek. I’ve written a lot of action and a lot of humor and a lot of sheer nonsense. But I have also, again and again, challenged readers to think about what they were reading. To think about the right and wrong, not just the who-beat-who. And to tell you the truth I’m a little shocked that so many readers seemed to believe I’d wrap it all up with a lot of high-fiving and backslapping. Wars very often end, sad to say, just as ours did: with a nearly seamless transition to another war.”

Like, we all understand how Veronica questions people, right? It’s a way of testing their reaction. Accuse them of doing something horrible, and if they react a certain way it lets her know if they’re lying about it or if they’re genuinely surprised at being accused of the crime. Veronica does it to almost everyone in the series that is involved in whatever mystery she’s puzzling out, even before it looks like there’s enough evidence to support the theory of that particular person committing the crime. It’s an investigation technique. It’s her job.

And secondly, she accused him of plotting with Cervando to blow up the rich kids’ limo, which should have included Logan, except for Logan skipped the trip. That theory included the idea that Cervando didn’t count on Dick giving the “bomb” in the gift raffle basket back to Betina, so the bus blew up instead. And considering that Weevil went to the bridge in season 1 with serious intent to kill Logan (or at least seriously injure him), burned down his house, and is capable of having someone killed (see Thumper), Veronica had a lot of reasons to think Weevil could go that far if he wanted Logan dead.

Honestly, Veronica has trust issues for reasons that include her friends lying to her and doing underhanded things behind her back along with everything else that gives her those issues. This encounter between Weevil and Veronica was fair—the writers wanted us to be unsure if Weevil would go that far or not.

The only instance wherein Veronica reacts badly and baselessly accuses Weevil I can think of is in season 3 when her necklace is stolen in the dorm room casino holdup. And even then, we see that she’s acting out of extreme emotional distress and not thinking clearly about it.

But that’s the thing about Veronica: she only gives the benefit of the doubt to a few people in her life, and only after making sure they’re genuinely good people she can trust to do the right thing (Wallace, Mac, her dad, maybe Meg…and that’s it). Weevil doesn’t qualify because of a) his illegal activities b) his past history of tricking and lying to her and c) the resulting underlying tension between the two of them. There’s a reason why most of their interactions are tallied in “favors” between them—it’s the only comfortable way they can find to be together socially or to do things for one another. For most of the series, anyway.

Joss Whedon Confirms Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch for The Avengers 2

Back in April, Marvel’s The Avengers director Joss Whedon teased that mutant siblings Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch would be making an appearance in the sequel, The Avengers 2. Now, he has confirmed that with IGN.

Here is what he had to say about their inclusion.

“You know, they had a rough beginning. They’re interesting to me because they sort of represent the part of the world that wouldn’t necessarily agree with The Avengers. So they’re not there to make things easier. I’m not putting any characters in the movie that will make things easier.”

If you have not seen Iron Man 3, you might want to stop reading as this next bit of news from Joss is a MAJOR SPOILER!

At the end of Iron Man 3, Tony Stark destroys all of his suits of armor. The director talked about the challenges of bringing the character back for The Avengers 2 as he has seemingly quit his job as a superhero.

“Well, I feel like in Iron Man 3, even though he said, ‘I’ve changed’ — he blew up his remote suits, but I don’t think anybody thinks he doesn’t have one anymore. The question is, if The Avengers are called, does he show up? And the answer is, ‘Yes!’”
